Overview

Welcome to YuGiOh Genesys

YuGiOh Genesys is an official format created by Konami that revolutionizes Yu-Gi-Oh! gameplay through an innovative point-based deck construction system. Whether you're a returning player or competitive duelist, this guide will help you understand and master the format.

What Makes Genesys Different?

Revolutionary Point System

Instead of the traditional Forbidden & Limited List, Genesys uses a 100-point budget for deck construction. Most cards cost 0 points, but powerful cards have point values. This creates strategic decisions about which power cards to include.

Classic Yu-Gi-Oh! Feel

  • No Link Monsters - Simplified Extra Deck mechanics
  • No Pendulum Monsters - Original field layout returns
  • Formerly Banned Cards - Now available within point budget
  • Strategic Depth - Balance power vs. consistency

Official Tournament Support

  • Play at Official Tournament Stores
  • YCS Genesys Invitationals at major events
  • Regular point list updates every 4-6 weeks
  • Growing competitive scene

Key Concepts to Understand

Point Budget Management

You have 100 points to spend across your entire deck (Main, Extra, and Side). Strategic players typically use:

  • 40-50 points: Power cards and format staples
  • 30-40 points: Consistency cards and hand traps
  • 10-20 points: Reserved for Side Deck options

Deck Construction

  • Main Deck: 40-60 cards (40-45 recommended)
  • Extra Deck: 0-15 cards (Fusion, Synchro, Xyz only)
  • Side Deck: 0-15 cards (points count toward total)

Common Strategies

  • High Power: Use most points on powerful cards
  • Balanced: Distribute points between power and consistency
  • Low Point: Focus on 0-point cards with strategic point use
