Format Overview

What is YuGiOh Genesys?

YuGiOh Genesys is an official format created by Konami that introduces a revolutionary point-based deck construction system. Unlike traditional Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG where card limitations are based on the Forbidden & Limited List, Genesys offers a fresh approach to competitive play.

Key Features

No Forbidden & Limited List

The standard Forbidden & Limited Cards list does not apply in Genesys format. Previously banned cards like Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity can be used, subject to the point system and the usual 3-copy limit per card.

Point-Based System

  • Most cards cost 0 points (free to use)
  • Powerful cards have point values
  • Your total deck (Main + Extra + Side) cannot exceed the point cap
  • Standard tournament point cap: 100 points
  • Official Tournament Stores can set custom point caps

Format Restrictions

  • Link Monsters: NOT allowed
  • Pendulum Monsters: NOT allowed
  • All other card types: Allowed (Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Ritual, Effect, Normal, Spell, Trap)
  • Field Layout: Original layout without Extra Monster Zones or Pendulum Zones

The Three Core Rules

Rule 1: Classic Monster Types Only

Link and Pendulum Monsters are completely banned in YuGiOh Genesys. The format uses the original field layout, bringing back the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! feel that many players love.

Rule 2: Flexible Card Pool

No Forbidden & Limited List applies. Previously restricted cards can be played within your point budget, creating diverse deck building opportunities.

Rule 3: Point Budget System

Deck construction uses a point system where most cards are free, but certain powerful cards have point costs. Your Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck combined cannot exceed the event's point cap (standard is 100 points).
